| BREEDING
Everyone has a breeding program. If there is any doubt about
it, just ask them. Well, Snowridge Appaloosas has one too.
We like to think that ours might be just a little different in some respects.
I would encourage you to read the section labeled “Our
Philosophy” if you haven’t yet gotten there.
We try to produce a better more functional horse than some of the
body extremes we start with. We try to sustain a high level of the
Appaloosa gene pool in the resultant foals. We try to keep what we
started with, not losing any of it in the process, sometimes substituting
an equivalent in place of the original, but never ending up with less.
We try to produce diversity within our herd, and at the same time create
the same gene pool potential in all of its members. We are comfortable
in this program to an extent that if we were forced to breed half brothers
to half sisters, to save or recover a bloodline, we could do so with the
absence of risk that we presume to have with unrelated mares and stallions.
